West '05 Trip - Day 26

Another dreary, cold and rainy day.
I looked at the Madison River today at a few places, but mainly just above Hebgen Lake and down below the dam. It looked like a great day and great water to catch large pre-spawn browns, but all I ended up getting were a few whitefish. At least one of them was a decent size, caught on a woolly bugger. So that's whitefish on dries and streamers. How else am I NOT supposed to catch these damned things?
A few missed swipes on a clouser and bugger were the only action I saw from a trout, and it looked to be a good brown at that... but in the end all I did was look at him.
That was all she wrote. I packed up everything and drove through Yellowstone towards GTNP. Set up to sleep in my car at Flagg Ranch on the Snake, but in the end I tossed and turned and did anything but sleep. I drove on from there through Jackson and up into Hoback Canyon and a roadside turnout.
